Studying music in the School of Grammar is a gradual six year process of building musical skills and knowledge while making connections to learning in other disciplines. The ultimate goal is for students to have a life-long appreciation for music and the basic skills needed to participate in musical performance opportunities.
Curriculum and Assessment
The Minnesota State Standards for Music are addressed via the Core Knowledge Curriculum and materials created by Ms. Nimchuk. Please see the attached documents for more information about the Core Knowledge Curriculum's Elements of Music, Listening and Understanding Units, and Songs.
Knowledge and skills will be evaluated through various in-class activities and assignments. Students will not be expected to practice or do work outside of class if they are present and participating in music class. Materials/Information to build musical skills are located on the "Resources" page.
Please see my Blog for more specifics by grade level and upcoming events!

Informances
School of Grammar students participate in one Informance each school year. “Informance” is a term we use to describe an informative performance that demonstrates musical knowledge as well as performance skills. Informances combine all classes in each grade level! This is a very important event, so please be sure that your child wears their formal uniform that night!
Boys: Burgundy shirt with logo; khaki pants; dress shoes
Girls: White shirt with logo; jumper, plaid skirt, or khaki pants; dress shoes
Participation in the Informance is part of their music grade for Semester 2. Absences will not be excused unless it qualifies as such under ERA's Attendance Policy and communication has occurred between parents and the music teacher. Please see the ERA Attendance Policy for more information.
